Creating an Image Ad to Post on Craigslist

Ok, lets gets started and jump right into the good stuff.  The first thing that you will need is a Google voice number, why?  Because you can use this number in your ads and have your prospects leave their information for you without taking up your personal cell phone time.  Google.com/voice is where you want to go to get signed up for the free service.  You will need to create a Gmail account and the 2 will be linked together.  Whenever you get a voicemail it will forward a text of the message to your Gmail account.

Now you are ready to create your ad.  There are 2 different types of ads that you can use on Craigslist.  The standard text ad or an image ad (picture).  Text ads are ok, but you really have to be careful of the words that you use.  If you use words like “network marketing”, “residual income”, “MLSP” or any other words that would be associated with Network Marketing, Craigslist has a program that scans these ads for those words and instantly flags and removes your ad.  The benefit of using an image or picture ad is that the program that Craigslist uses cannot scan the words on the image.

Creating the image ad requires the use of 2 software programs, PowerPoint and Jing.  Most people have PowerPoint on their computers which is included in Microsoft Office and Jing is a screen capture program.   Just go to jing.com and download the free program.  Using PowerPoint is a relatively easy way to ad pictures and text to your image ad.  Once you have created your first ad, click on the Jing icon (usually positioned at the top center of your screen).  Capture the image and save it to your desktop.

Tips for using PowerPoint:  Use grid-lines to make sure your pictures and text line up and make sure you turn off the grid-lines and clear any box outlines before you capture the image.

While you are thinking up your ads, please do not be deceptive just to get people to call you.  This can be devastating for you and your business.  You will get more calls this way, however you will get a lot of negative people who are upset with you because you basically lied to them just to get the call.  Most people who do this will end up quitting their business because they cannot handle the negativity.  A little bit on honesty will generate quality leads.  When your leads call on the ad and listen to your voicemail and still decide to leave their information, you know that they are truly interested to hear what you have to offer.

Now you are ready to upload your image ad to the Internet.  This is necessary because you cannot post a picture directly to Craigslist, you have to tell Craigslist where to go to get the image ad that you want to post.  This is done with a little HTML Code that I will include a little further down.

You can upload your image to the internet with your own website or blog, or using a free image hosting service like photobucket.com.  Just sign up for a free account and upload your image.  It is really quite simple.  If you have your own blog or website you should already know how to add a media file to it.  After you upload this imagae ad you are going to copy the url or link that the image is located on.  When posting this image ad to Craigslist use this HTML code.  ( <img src=”this is where you insert your image ad link”> ).  You are using everything between and are not including the parenthesis ( ). I’m super excited, pumped up to start making money with my new MLM company.   I get home with dollar signs dancing around my head and then realize, who am I supposed to get to join me on this path to time and financial freedom?   So I pick up the phone and call my sponsor, then I hear those dreaded words “make a list of your friends and family”.   Friends and Family list, oh no. I’m not going to bug my family with this business.
It took many weeks and several training and motivational audios before I realized that I had this business all wrong.  What was I thinking?   Why would I not share this business with my closest allies?  Do I really want to work with a bunch of strangers?  Too many people treat this business as a solo project.
If I started a flower shop, autobody shop, sandwich shop, candy store, nail salon or one of the 1000′s of businesses out there, who would you tell about it?
I would be more than excited to share my new business with everyone that I know.   Handing out business cards, telling them that if they know anyone who needs whatever it is that I am in business for, to give me a call.
Why do we hold MLM companies to a completely different standard?   Why would I not want my friends and family to benefit from the same opportunity that I am excited about?   Friends and Family are the people that we trust and should want to work with.   They are also the ones that should want to help you out with your new side project.
Now I understand that your friends and family are not going to be the big business builders you are looking for, however, they are great for practicing your presentation and usually they have no reservations about telling you exactly how they feel about your new business.   If you have a decent product to offer at a reasonable price, they also make great customers.   You may also find someone close to you to team up with that can share in your success.
So basically your friends and family are not going to make or break your business, however, you are giving up on a possible goldmine of leads that can come from those very same people. Don’t rely on them, but you never want to exclude them either.

I remember when I was younger with a traditional job.  I recall working for years and looking back just  to realize that nothing had changed.  I was older but not better off.  I worked every week just to pay the weeks bills.  By the time that you understand that nothing is going to change unless you change, it almost feels like you wasted your youth working just to exist.

I now fully understand that one day I will wake up a 70 year old man with nothing to show for it but empty dreams and unfulfilled promises unless I am willing to do the things that I have never done in order to reach the heights that I had never been.

When you reach this age, you will not be looking back and wish that you have worked more.  You are going to be wishing you had spent more time with your family and friends.  Building strong lifelong personal relationships is where I believe that true life exists.
